The short answer
A new golf cart in Australia costs about $14,000 to $28,000 for mainstream brands in 2026. A new Club Car Tempo starts at $13,990, a Shelby from $20,990, and a Club Car Onward personal cart from $23,500. Premium lithium carts such as Garia run $65,000 to $80,000.
A good used golf cart costs about $5,000 to $15,000. Older lead-acid carts start around $5,000, ex-fleet Club Car Tempos sit around $7,000 to $11,000, and fully refurbished lithium carts with new paint and seats sit around $13,000 to $14,500.
That's the headline. The rest of this guide explains what actually moves the price, so you can work out what your cart should cost, and avoid paying for things you don't need (or skimping on the things you do).

Used and refurbished golf cart prices
Used prices swing more than new prices because condition matters more than the badge. Here's what the same money buys at different levels, based on carts we've recently listed:
| What you get | Typical example | Price range |
|---|---|---|
| Older lead-acid cart, serviced | 2016 Yamaha, lead-acid | Around $5,000 |
| Ex-fleet, recent model | 2019 to 2022 Club Car Tempo | $7,000 to $11,000 |
| Refurbished lithium, "as new" look | 2019 to 2022 Tempo with new paint, seats and lithium battery | $13,000 to $14,500 |
| Used personal cart | Club Car Onward, lithium | Around $13,500 |
Ex-fleet carts come off golf courses on a regular cycle, so they tend to be the best value: one model, one owner, serviced on a schedule. See our current used stock.
What actually drives the price
1. Battery type (the biggest single factor)
Lithium adds roughly $2,000 to $3,000 to a new cart compared with lead-acid. You get that back in other ways: no watering, a lighter cart, consistent power on hills and a far longer battery life. If you use the cart a lot, lithium usually costs less over its lifetime. Our lithium vs lead-acid guide runs the numbers.
2. Fleet cart or personal cart
Fleet carts like the Club Car Tempo are built to run all day, every day at a golf club, simply and reliably. Personal carts like the Club Car Onward and Shelby add comfort, speed options, lighting and style. That's why an Onward costs around $9,500 more than a Tempo. Not sure which you need? Read Club Car Tempo vs Onward.
3. Seats
Going from two seats to four adds roughly $4,000 to $5,000 on a Club Car Tempo.
4. Petrol or electric
Petrol carts cost a little more up front and need engine servicing, but suit big properties, steep terrain and long days without a charger nearby.
5. Options and accessories
Enclosures, lift kits, alloy wheels, premium seats, lights, sound systems and road-registration fit-outs can add anywhere from a few hundred dollars to several thousand. Browse our accessories.
The costs people forget
- Delivery. We deliver Australia-wide. Freight depends on distance and is confirmed with your quote.
- Servicing. Budget for an annual service. Our workshops are in Campbelltown (NSW) and Dandenong South (VIC), with mobile servicing across NSW, the ACT and Victoria.
- Battery replacement. Lead-acid packs wear out and need replacing every few years; lithium lasts far longer.
- Registration and insurance. Only if you want to drive on public roads, and only where it's allowed. See can you register a golf cart in NSW or Victoria?
- Storage and charging. A dry, ventilated spot with a standard power point is enough for most electric carts.
How to get the most cart for your money
Buy for how you'll use it
A club fleet, an acreage and a retirement estate all need different carts. Paying for speed or seats you'll never use is the most common overspend.
Look at lifetime cost
A cheaper lead-acid cart can cost more over five years once you add batteries, water and time. Ask for both prices.
Buy where it's serviced
A cart is only as good as the workshop behind it. Ask who services it, where the parts come from and how fast.
Use finance or a trade-in
We offer business finance for ABN holders, consumer finance, and trade-ins on all makes and models.

How much is a new golf cart in Australia?
Most new golf carts from mainstream brands cost about $14,000 to $28,000 in 2026. At InGolf & Utility a new Club Car Tempo starts at $13,990, a Shelby from $20,990 and a Club Car Onward from $23,500 (inc. GST). Premium lithium carts such as Garia cost $65,000 to $80,000.
How much is a used golf cart in Australia?
A good used golf cart costs about $5,000 to $15,000. Older lead-acid carts start around $5,000, ex-fleet Club Car Tempos sit around $7,000 to $11,000, and refurbished lithium carts with new paint and seats around $13,000 to $14,500.
Is a lithium golf cart worth the extra cost?
For most regular users, yes. Lithium adds about $2,000 to $3,000 to a new Club Car, but it needs no watering, is lighter, charges faster, holds power on hills and its battery typically lasts several times as many charge cycles as lead-acid.
Why is a Club Car Onward more expensive than a Tempo?
The Tempo is a fleet golf car built for golf courses. The Onward is a personal transport vehicle with LED lighting, more seating layouts, a lifted option, premium finishes and high-performance versions.
Can I buy a golf cart on finance or trade in my old cart?
Yes. InGolf & Utility offers business finance for ABN holders and consumer finance, and accepts trade-ins on all makes and models.
Do you deliver golf carts outside NSW and Victoria?
Yes. We deliver new and used golf carts and utility vehicles Australia-wide. Freight is confirmed with your quote.
